Ingredients
For Fish Jalfrezi:
  • 1 cup fish cubes
  • 3-4 tablespoons oil
  • 1 tablespoon ginger-garlic paste
  • 1 cup tomato puree
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 julienned capsicum
  • 1 julienned onion
  • 1 julienned tomato
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 teaspoon red chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon whole spice powder
For Mushroom Rice:
  • 2 cups basmati rice
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 onion finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 cup sliced mushrooms
  • Salt to taste
  • 3 cups water
Cooking Method
Cook the Rice:
  1. Rinse the basmati rice until the water runs clear. In a pot, melt the butter and add the onion and garlic. Sauté until fragrant. Add the mushrooms and cook for a few minutes. Stir in the rice, salt, and water. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 15-20 minutes, or until the rice is tender.
Prepare the Fish Jalfrezi:
  1. Heat oil in a pan. Add the ginger-garlic paste and sauté until fragrant. Add the fish cubes and cook until browned. Remove the fish and set aside.
Make the Gravy:
  1. Add tomato puree, soy sauce, red chili powder, turmeric powder, black pepper, salt and whole spice powder to the pan. Cook until the gravy thickens and oil separates.

  2. Add the onion, capsicum, and tomato to the gravy. Cook for a few minutes. Return the fish cubes to the pan and mix well.
  3. Serve the Fish Jalfrezi with the cooked Mushroom Rice.
